A baby is not a project we complete. They are a person who will watch how we treat a small life, and later treat themselves the same way. Before milk, before the kit, before the photograph — we decide what this house is for.
We are not having a child to perform a family. We are having a child because a house that can hold a new person is the life we chose. If we forget that in month four, this page is here to remember.
Meaning is made, not found
The culture will offer a thousand meanings: a milestone chart, a perfect nursery, a quiet baby, a gifted baby, a baby who sleeps through. None of those is a life. Meaning is the sentence we return to when none of that is true.
